Dana Cooper at the Essanay Open MicA newcomer to the event Wednesday told me he had no idea Niles even existed, “I turned under this railroad bridge and then it emerged from nowhere like magic - this awesome little town at the foot of the hills . . . ” Yep, that’s our Niles!

I am loving the Essanay Cafe’s wine bar as an open mic venue. Seriously, it’s just awesome.

So this week we were graced with the rare occasion of a featured performer. Specifically, the venerable Dana Cooper (pictured above there), who drove down that morning from Seattle. He’s just finished his new album (his TWENTIETH, for gumbo’s sake!!), “The Conjurer,” and treated us to a few really excellent compositions off of it - I’ve had his song “Enough” rattling around my head ever since.

It was an evening of visitors, lots of super-talented regulars and even a couple of lads from Alabama (The Brothers Vertebrae) who BARTed down from the city to close things out at the end of the night.
