Easiest recording ever
Just come play at one of the open mics I host (Bay Street or Essanay) and I'll burn your set onto a retro vinyl CD right after you play. Just five bucks, it's the cheapest recording in the bay area!
No one but you ever has to listen to it . . . on the other hand, it's the easiest demo CD you'll ever make. Record a love song for someone special, get something to stick up on mySpace, include it as a bonus live track on your soon-to-be-released studio album - the possibilities are endless. Plus I usually have a little camera with me and I'll email you any pics I take of you playing . . . I may not be the best photographer in the world but hey, it's free!
Invite me to record you
Got a concert coming up you'd like a decent recording of? Heading out to an open mic and want to hear your set afterwards? Just need a hand recording something quick for not much money? I'm not gonna show up with a van full of recording gear, but then I'm not gonna charge you what one of those guys will either. If it's an open mic, hell, I might be going myself anyway. Can't hurt to drop me a line at sean(at)lightholder(dot)net and see if I can't help you out. If you have the money to hire a studio guy, cool. If not, hey - I can get you something that'll sound pretty good on a CD that you can use to get gigs and sell at shows.
Invite me to your open mic event
Want to offer players at your open mic the chance to hear their performance? Looking to make "LIVE AT YOUR VENUE" kind of CD without paying too much to get it done? I'm your guy. I can work with your current sound person, bring my own sound system or record fully acoustic performances. Give me a shout and I can give your performers a CD a few minutes after they're off the stage.
Why are you doing this?
I love this stuff. I love music and I love listening to old recordings of things I've done - I wish I could go back and listen to more of the shows I've played with different bands. I figure you're probably a little like me, I'd love to help you get more recordings of you doing your thing without spending a lot of money. I've been going to open mics around the San Francisco bay area since the early 1990s, been running this site since 1998 and have 7 albums under my belt (so far! *grin*). I won't judge your music - I've done everything from choir work with the philharmonic to live punk shows at small pubs in Ireland. In my opinion, the less messing around, the better. You want a cheap and cheerful live recording, get in touch with me and if I think I can do it, I will.
