Formerly "R-Place," Backstage Livermore is a music-focused, divey bar with a cavernous dance area and pool tables out the back. Dedicated to live music, the venue has been run by the Browns and has featured live music since it opened in 2011. Aside from the name change and bit of a glow up, the new owners, Andrea and Rob, have not changed any of the good things about the bar when they took the reins in June 2026.

JD Davidson has been running the jam/open mic here twice a week every Thursday and Sunday since it was called "R Place" and has continued to do so as the venue's new owners took over. Singers and musicians are welcome to drop in and play/sing with the house band (drums, guitar, bass) or do their own thing on the house backline if they are an ensemble. JD says that if you are a local act and contact him in advance he can even have you play a half-hour set to open the event.
