When I started the Bay Area open mic calendar, the legendary Sweetwater Saloon was still at its original, funky location at 153 Throckmore in Mill Valley. Around 2007 that location closed and, after a short lapse, founding Grateful Dead member, Bob Weir stepped in in 2012 and it reopened down the block in the Masonic Lodge building as the Sweetwater Music Hall. After the pandemic, it became a nonprofit organization supporting live music and local youth and it recently got a bit of a facelift with its new Rock 'n Rye bar/restaurant.
